To celebrate Lawson's 1st birthday on May 7, 2008, Dave and I decided to take Lawson to the place where we first met, the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World! We knew Lawson was still too young to fully appreciate Disney World, but we also knew it would be a wonderful memory for us since we love it so much! We were both working there in 1998, me as a ride operator on Goofy's Barnstormer in Toontown and Dave as an attractions manager for Fantasyland. Even as adults, we both think the Magic Kingdom is a magical place!
We celebrated Lawson's birthday with our families on Saturday, May 3rd in Birmingham. That same evening, Dave and I flew (by ourselves!) down to Orlando. We stayed with Ken and Shawna in Celebration that night and the guys went to play golf the next day. We checked into the hotel on Sunday evening and just relaxed! Monday we slept in and then drove over (we rented a car) to the Magic Kingdom area and rented a little 2-seater water sprite boat at the Wilderness Lodge. We spent an hour zooming (well, sputtering) around the lake of all the MK resorts - Wilderness Lodge, Comtemporary, Grand Floridian, and the Polynesian. I had not done this before, so it was a real treat to see all these resorts from the water. Dave worked for Disney for over 8 years, so he's always full of interesting stories, and even better, knows ALL the short-cuts!!
Tuesday we picked Mom, Dad, and Lawson up from the airport and the official "family vacation" began! We had a quick lunch at Celebration (since we really like it there too!) and then got Mom & Dad checked into the hotel.
Lawson waves a shy hello!
Lawson doesn't pack lightly!
We have lunch in Celebration (where Uncle Ken lives).
We arrive at the "Carribean Beach" Resort!
